Hello, I am Christine Baek.
Currently a senior at Northview High School, I joined the Lit Mag team to get an insider's view of the publication process, from designing layouts to creating digital art. I also wanted to collaborate with and learn from the many talented artists and writers on our Staff.
Some quick facts about me:
o I am an avid reader of science fiction, poetry, autobiographies and historical texts.
o As much as I love reading, I strongly dislike horror. The world is scary enough without some fat-headed clown on the loose.
o I've been playing violin for six years and was a member of Northview's Chamber Orchestra before I switched to Lit Mag (with no regrets).
o When not writing for Lit Mag or just because, I am drafting college essays, so I guess I'm rarely ever not writing.
i am poem.
“If you wait for inspiration to write you're not a writer, you're a waiter.”
I come from my mother, from her flesh and bone and blood
From years of unanswered prayer and the one prayer which came true,
Whispered from her lips like a confirmation, a vow.
From staircases oxidizing grey to green and from Room 336
On the third floor
I come to Lit Mag knowing I have much to learn
Wondering how much I have yet to grow
Willing to change and be changed.
I am an inquisitive mind and a restless spirit who reaches, reaches
Toward the ineffable
And today I live.
