Hi! My name Sarah and I'm currently a senior at Northview High School. I love both writing and art; more specifically, I have a passion for photography, digital art, and design. In fact lit mag has forced me to face the truth: I love design, and that's what I want to pursue a career in. I'm hoping to major in graphic design at college while also pursuing dance on the side in [where I'm hoping to attend school] the famous city of angels, Los Angeles.
This is my third - and sadly - last year in Lit Mag, this time as the Editor-in-Chief and I couldn't be more excited for this class. Lit mag is not only an outlet to express my creativity, but has played a vital role in who I am now. I have grown and learned more from Mrs.Pope and my fellow staff members than I have in any other class, and I am grateful to have been able to work with such amazing people. From CSPA in New York, to selling Menchies during lunch, to spending my lunches in the Mac Lab, lit mag is truly one of the best experiences I will ever have. Although it seems like Covid-19 has forced everyone to put a damper on plans, I can say with all my confidence that this will be one amazing year.
If Covid-19 didn't exist, you would find me lounging around at home indulging in Netflix, (or tiktok - not gonna lie I'm obsessed), at the dance studio, color guard practice, work, hanging out with my friends and family, doing a fun photoshoot, or doing the dreaded college apps. I have a love for authentic Mexican food, Thai Basil fried rice, Chik-Fil-A, Chips Ahoy Cookies, Taco Bell, Indian Cuisine, and Coffee. I always end up driving around a lot because of the various places I go to, so I spend a lot of time on Spotify's shuffle playlists (I'm too broke to have premium) and listening to weird ads on the radio because my car is old and the bluetooth transmitter doesn't always work.
But yeah, that's me in a nutshell:)
I AM POEM
I come from a land with many in between where all are near but never there
From the valley of umpteen voices and conceptions of your endeavors
From the fondness of strangers who will always look in the mirror
I come to lit mag knowing that to look back means of strength, wondering how our souls have found comfort in the smallest class, willing to let the light grow in the darkness of this sphere
I am an imperfection in a world of control, standards higher than the price of life itself
And today I take my first steps forward.
