Neha rao
Shop Suki is a mother-daughter-owned small business that sells cute, quality jewelry on Etsy. These freshwater pearl necklaces are adorned with small beads and cute charms that make designs virtually endless and provide nostalgia for necklace wearers everywhere. Neha Rao goes behind the scenes on an exclusive interview with Sara Hsu, a young women part of the Shop Suki team, and highlights what it's like to own a small business while simultaneously giving insight on the “it” girls' biggest accessory obsession of the year.

2021 recap

________

Srilakshmi KoyA
As a high-schooler, the one constant connection we have with the rest of the world is social media. Waking up at 9 AM and sifting through the threads of stories and posts on Instagram was embarrassingly my only source of news, political stands and social drama. On everyone’s stories were reposts of memes, cartoons, interviews, and the progression of life when everyday felt as if it was put on pause. So, here's the 2021 I saw.

CHRISTIE PENG

A human record

________
GRACE CHUNG AND KAYLYN ZHONG
With a rise in new platforms to share and store photos, the creation of physical photo albums to hold the memories of people and past events has become increasingly obsolete. The surging popularity of social media, in particular, has led to many displaying photos online rather than creating albums—believing it to be cheaper, easier, and more time-efficient. However, there exists an unseen value in having a physical, printed ‘feed’ that many people may not realize. The utilization of albums as record-keeping devices allows for the preservation of more permanent and long-lasting memories—forging a personal connection that can be cherished for much longer than if they were withheld in online storage.

How to crochet an amigurumi bird

________

EILEEN CHEN
It's easy to get hooked on amigurumi (forgive the pun!). Whether you are a pro-crocheter or a lockdown learner, amigurumi is a fun and cute crochet technique. Eileen Chen has designed this crochet pattern over the summer, and it is a simple and cute project to get started with amigurumi. The doll is around 8 centimeters tall and consists of only 4 parts: a sphere-shaped body, a beak, and two hands, with the eyes (and optional blush) embroidered on. Click below to explore how you can make your own amigurumi bird!

MEET OUR STAFF
The Muse is an award-winning student-run publication that compiles student art and writing into an annual magazine. Founded in 2002, this class was founded on the principles of being able to escape the structure of school and create an environment where it is possible to explore the arts and find your voice. Exploring a variety of works, we focus on combining creative writing and the arts into our publications. We showcase the work of Northview's talented artists, writers, composers, and many more in celebration of their creativity.

The Muse accepts, but is not limited to, works such as poetry, prose, screenplays, music compositions, song lyrics, and visual arts submissions. Each submission is then critiqued on quality and theme before  selection. Students whose work(s) are accepted become published writers or artists, and their art is circulated not only throughout the school, but also throughout national competitions. Northview's The Muse is dedicated to giving all students' art and writing a voice, an outlet to expand their talent, and a chance to be heard.
